How can counselling help?
By talking through and exploring your difficulties and thoughts, underlying issues can be discovered and be dealt with by adopting a more positive approach. You will discover strategies and new ways of coping to manage your problems. By engaging in your therapy you will develop and a real sense of your true self, boost your self-esteem and discover your real potential. By doing this will empower you to make any changes you need.
The process will help you discover who you really are, and let you be who you really want it to be.

How & why I can relate to your issues
I can relate to pain and suffering that disability brings and the challenges and pitfalls life throws at you, as I am disabled myself. I have a broad background in Nursing & Social Care hence gaining some valuable experience. I’m also experienced in loss and bereavement and I can offer the chance for you to share your painful story and your experiences.

What the first session brings
The first session is an assessment session to enable me to know the basic facts about you and the people circle around you. During the 60 minutes, I will start to get to know you and about the issues that are preventing you to move forward.
All that you tell me is kept in the strictness of confidence. From this session, we can discuss how counselling can help you and we can make a plan to move you forward. The next sessions can be planned and payment arrangements made.

Your plan
If your plan involves animal-assisted interventions ( a therapy pet of your choice) then you can decide on which animal you prefer for example dog or cat. You will then be introduced to your therapy animal to check you are comfortable with that pet, then therapy can begin.
Ongoing sessions sessions are monitored using Core Outcome Measures and tracked so you can see at a glance how you are doing, then reviewed every 8 sessions. Further sessions can be added for as long as you need or want them.

Also offering …
The therapy is mainly Humanistic with other elements of different counselling approaches integrated into my practice, like CBT for example, Working in a Person Centred way helps with deeper empathic understanding and allows you time to understand yourself.
Animal Assisted therapy, can help you if you have difficulties in talking or expressing your self, help you feel relaxed, enhance your relationships, enhance well-being, and develop trust.
Please visit the sites menu to see ‘Counselling with a Therapy Pet’ page, where you can view the therapy pets available.

The things I have been asked to help with ..
Helping with motivation is a strong skill of mine and I am often asked to help people when they are struggling to find work. This is something I can assist and support with anything from feelings about work, low self-esteem, searching for work, help with the ability to write CV’s, to confidence building etc. Also when people suffer with depression they tend to lack motivation. By working together and setting small goals, then achieving those goals will help you to move forward positively.

Phobias
People approach me when they have a fear of dogs, cats, frogs, going out, people etc. By working through those feelings and how they affect you physically, we can begin with a process of working together starting with low graded exposure. We would look at pictures, talk about feelings and slowly work up to maybe being in the same room or even touch the thing you’re scared of, thus facing the fear. This is done in a safe environment and at your own speed.

Loss/bereavement
Obviously, I can’t take away the full pain of your loss, or bring the person back. However, I can certainly help to alleviate what you are going through. By listening, and working through the grieving process I can support you and give you coping strategies to manage better.

Relationships
By talking through your problems we can discover why your relationships may breakdown. Then strategies can be put in place to help prevent this from happening over and over again. Work can also be done on building your self-esteem and improving your confidence.

Trauma

I offer Rewind Trauma Therapy which is 1-4 sessions. This is a comfortable and effective therapy that uses imagery and visualisation to eradicate flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, sleep issues, nightmares and lots more PTSD symptoms. This is a very brief intervention which has a success rate of 90%.  I am on the provider list for IARTT.

And many more……….
